A monthly job comparing two servers, kept for thirteen months to preserve an option, and switched off once the option stopped mattering.
the job:
41 integration tests, run against both servers,
monthly, since April 2024.
runs: 14
failures: 0
cost: about 20 minutes of runner time a year
retired May 2025, and the tests kept — they now run
against one server as part of the ordinary suite,
which is where they should have been all along.
The tests were the valuable artefact and the dual-server run was the temporary part, which is the right way round and was not the original intention. Retiring a scheduled job is a decision that never gets made unless somebody schedules the review, and this one was in the decision record as a review date rather than as a job somebody would notice.
