Symfony 7.1, and staying on 6.4 for another year

A second year of the same decision, revisited on schedule rather than by drift.

the review, June 2024:

  deprecation notices on 6.4 140 → 96
  anything needed from 7.x no
  6.4 support ends 2027-11
effort to reach 7.0 the 96 notices, and
                               nothing else

decision: stay. next review June 2025.

and the thing that changed: 44 notices were cleared in
a year without a project, because they were fixed as
the files were touched.

The number going down on its own is the argument for logging deprecations rather than scheduling an upgrade — the work happens as a side effect of ordinary changes, and the eventual major becomes a version bump. The calendar entry is the part that makes this a decision rather than an omission, and it is the part that would lapse first.
